Great to see Wilfred doing well in the Ratings. Now ….if FX really wants to take on the big guys and get top ratings- see suggestions in my blog essay “Wilfred – where it all began”. Ideas about how to gun for an even broader audience (demographics/ psychographics you had never dreamed of) .
Suggested cross-over (hybrid format ) with Cesar Millan’s show to attract more dog lovers and Latinos, and to broker product placement deals with PetMeds companies. Why not let WIlfred host his very own human training videos – and do an inspirational speaking tour. Who better to teach us all how not to give a f’…..
THere’s stuff on how to deal with disgruntled Aussie wilfred fans (who just can’t let go of the Wilfred they once knew and loved) – and more.
By Liz Ferrier on October 26th, 2012 at 3:44 pmAnd what about Wilfred returning with Jenna to Oz for just one hilarious episode – get sponsorship from Tourism Australian and Australia’s Network 10 (more cross overs with Bondi Rescue – and Bondi Vet – here you’ll pick up females 18-55 – including grocery buyers – and high-disposable income gay male viewers.
Multiply those revenue streams. And hang on- where’s the merchandise? Why can’t we buy Wilfred suits and shaggable wilfred soft toys ? (perhaps i am mising something on this site – but I’m off to a W party next week and haven’t a thing to wear.
It’s all on the latest post I’ve put up for my media/advertising students at –

There are so many questions about who Wilfred is, or.. What he is. And for that matter that little glimpse of Mitten’s through the eyes of Ryan’s mother. And every cryptic step in the direction of finding his identity really only unveils more questions without answers.
I watched the show when it first appeared thinking that I would find an unusual comedy that utilized my favorite way method of creativity by taking a completely random and off the wall idea and giving it substance, but what I found was that and so much more. A journey into reality and consciousnesses and it’s inescapable subjectivity that can’t be done away with no matter how much you reason or try and apply logic to.
And all the while it manages to remain thought provoking and wise it’ doesn’t ever take it’s self to seriously. Remaining funny and at the same time intellectually stimulating in a way that’s unreal to me and I’ve never before witnessed in a show.
To my dismay and pleasure I guess I can never really hope to find the answers to the questions that Ryan and I both wonder. Because to do away with those questions is to do away with what makes the show so incredibly charming and fascinating. In way it’s almost like Wilfred’s teaching me personally a lesson through indirect actions leading me to realize the answers on my own. Which ultimately I suppose will only be interpretations.
Is that then the conclusion to the lesson? That there is no real truth. That like the subjective reality demonstrated within the show, the only real truth to the many questions that inevitably arise is what the individual interprets it to be.
